Las Casuelas Nuevas

"The Spirit of Mexico in the heart of Rancho Mirage"
Serving great Mexican food in the Coachella Valley for over 35 years

Inside courtyard dining room, complete with balconies

We happened upon beautiful restaurant while out for a drive one afternoon.  You have to enter the drive from Highway 111  follow the drive to the rear parking area.   You will enter and wander  through a beautiful outdoor patio courtyard to reach the door to actually enter the restaurant  and check in with the hostess.  This is by far the most beautiful Mexican Restaurant I have ever seen.   The food was delicious, the service was great, the atmosphere was a perfect "10".

Bob and I honestly eat Mexican food at least once a week.  I believe we  have eaten enough Mexican food and love it enough we could be considered EXPERT in this area of rating the food!  With that  said, and for what it's worth,  I highly recommend this place.   Our friends Betsy and Nancy that we met in Tucson at the Lazy Days campground are visiting here this week and tried it and they liked it too.  You can read their take on the Margaritas in their blog RV-A-GOGO.

If your in the Palm Springs area, this would be my choice for a wonderful Mexican dinner

Dinner at Murph's Gaslight

We made some new friends, that were our neighbors for a few days at Emerald Desert.  Ginny and John Babel from Northern California.  Friday night was their last night in town, and they invited us to join them for dinner at one of their favorite  places to eat.

Murph's Gaslight is located next to the Bermuda Dunes Airport.  If you didn't know it was there and  don't have GPS you just might miss it.  Pull into the drive and find the parking lot, you will realize this is a favorite of the locals.  They have a Pub and a "family style" restaraunt.  Dress casual and come hungry, you will not be dissappointed.

Murph's is "famous" for their  "Original Pan Fried Chicken".  We had a coupon for $30 for two, which was a $10 savings off the regular price:)    We were greeted by a bubbly waitress, that  provided us with great service.

The Menu

************

We started off with a pot of delicious homade clam chowder;  served with hot corn bread and a chilled  green salad.  The soup is brought to the table in a big soup pot with a ladle, so there is plenty for seconds!

Entree'
Fresh chicken pan-fried to crispy golden brown, served with creamy mashed potatoes, country gravy, black-eyed peas, fresh cooked sweet potatoes, hot buttermilk biscuits, butter and honey.

Dessert
Fresh peach short cake with cream

A huge platter of chicken was brought out for us to share and then when we are finished with the meal they bring out "to-go" bags for each of us and more chicken to top off the platter for us to bring home for lunch the next day!

The food reminded me of "southern" cooking from back home in Tennessee.    "Yummy"

A Day in Palm Desert

Emerald Desert RV Resort

We have been in Palm Desert just over a week now and have decided to extend our stay through February 10th.   I thought I would take you along via  a photo log to give you an idea why we would want to stay here longer.    We are continuing our stay at Emerald Desert RV Resort.  There is a calendar packed with activities to  allow guests to be as busy as they want to be.  We are nestled in this desert oasis with beautiful snow capped moutain views.   I begin my day with a walk to the two dog parks on the property.   Georgia likes to go to both to see if we can make some new friends.   Following playtime at the dog park we return to our motorhome for breakfast with Bob.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings I am enjoying water aerobics in the beautiful heated saltwater pool.   Then I will  head back home and we will make plans for lunch or a drive in the afternoon.  On Tuesday and Thursdays when I am not at the pool, Georgia and I will take a long walk down Frank Sinatra Drive, or head over to the University Dog Park in town,    Thursday mornings we have a Farmer's Market right here at the resort, there is nothing like getting fresh local produce at your door!    People are very friendly.  I managed to find a local dentist to reattach the crown that fell off.  Then two days later saw the dentist while we were having lunch at the local Olive Garden, he stopped by to make sure everything was okay with my tooth!  I thought that only happened in small towns in the South:)

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013!

A stroll New Years Eve enjoying the lights in the RV Resort
We  rang in the New Year last night at Emerald Desert RV Resort in Palm Desert CA.

The Resort hosted a New Years Eve Party to include dinner and a band for those that wanted to stay up late and ring in the New Year.   We however chose to have our own celebration with a wonderful steak dinner that Bob grilled out at our site.   We then took a walk and enjoyed the beautiful lights around the resort.

New Years Day officially arrived when we received a wake up call from our daughter Tamara at 6:00 A.M. as she and her husband were boarding the plane back to Atlanta.  We began the day with a beautiful drive through this breathtaking area.    The landscape is amazing.  The Palm Springs area, to include Palm Desert and Indio is so beautiful.     We managed to take in a local Dog Park with Georgia, then returned to the motorhome to watch the  UGA vs Nebraska game.   In true "Southern Tradition" I prepared our New Years Meal, complete with Blackeyed Peas, Greens, Cornbread, and BBQ Chicken.    This is to insure our "Good Luck" in 2013:)
