Taking The Back Road
6/29/13

After the rain storm

This adventure began on a rainy morning.  We noted on the map and GPS if we take the back roads from Deer Park it is only 27 miles to Blanchard Idaho.  We headed over the hill and through the dell, and noted a road construction sign.  We stop at a gas station and asked the guy there if the road was open ahead.  He said " No problem, that is just uneven pavement for repaving."   So we decided to go ahead...down the winding wooded road we head several miles and we come to a sign that says the road is closed!  Did I mention this is a narrow2 lane and we are  towing our car, cannot back up can only unhook and try to turn around.   It is also raining big time now.  We find a little area to pull over and are unhooking the car, so I can drive ahead and scout, as our turn is less than a mile.

A sweet good smaritan stops and looks at the two of us, ( looking like drowned rats) and says" There is no way you can go any further in that rig. "The road is completely out.  At this point we regroup, dry off and get ourselves turned around  I drove the car ahead with the GPS following an alternate route 39 miles in another direction, and Bob following me in the motorhome.   The GPS took us up to Newport Washington, then routed us back 12 miles into  Blanchard Idaho .  In the 11 months we have been on the road this is a first.   It is funny now, thinking back on it, but at the time....not so funny:)

We finally arrive at Stone Ridge Resort, and even in the rain it is breath taking beauty.  Our plan was to stay one or two nights.... TO BE CONTINUED:)
